Lantmännen opens recycling plant in Finland
Lantmännen opened a new recycling plant in Kotka, Finland, last Thursday, 1st of November. The new plant will collect and process food waste from our bakeries and retail, including bread and pasta.
The material will then be dried and used to feed Lantmännen Agroetanol's biorefinery in Norrköping, where it's turned into sustainable ethanol fuel with a 95% C02-reduction, sustainable animal feed and carbonic acid. Lantmännen's refining process of grains and food waste has proved to be a successful recycling method with great benefits for the climate, and today Lantmännen Agroetanol is the only large-scale producer of ethanol in the Nordic region.
Jan Mauritzson, Managing director at Lantmännen Agroetanol, Magnus Kagevik, Head of the Energy Sector at Lantmännen, Thomas Isaksson, Managing Director VAASAN Oy Finland & the Baltics and Ari Siekkinen, Site Manager at the new recycling plant, took part in the opening in Kotka which included customers, representatives from the municipality and Finnish media.
Closing the loop is an important part of our responsibility from field to fork. By developing solutions that enable a biobased circular economy, which Lantmännen Agroetanol is a great example of, we contribute to the future of agriculture and a fossil-free society.
